How to embrace change

Change is a necessary part of our life.
Yet, not everyone can easy deal with it.

A part of us is afraid of change as it could mean losing someone or something we care, moving from a loved place, exploring new feelings and activities. So, you can feel a really wide range of different emotions when facing change.

But, the good news is that you can learn to positively embrace change, by opening your mind and soul to it. In that way, change is nothing more that a chance of growing, improving yourself, and learning new things or meeting new people.

I want to give you three easy tools to embrace change in your life:

  1. Acceptance. Learn to consider change as inevitable, as a normal part of your life, and not just a terrifying event. When you start looking at change with acceptance, you will learn that the negative feeling you associate with it are your personal response to what you don’t know, yet. In this first phase, the best tool you can use is deep breathing, that will help you calm down, relax, getting rid of stress, anxiety, and fears. Breathing correctly will let your body and your mind make space for the new feelings and emotion, cutting the bonds with the overwhelming negative thoughts.
  2. Perseverance. Change is not always easy. It involves leaving old, and well known thoughts, habits, emotions to go toward something you still don’t know. And this could be difficult. But if you learn to develop perseverance, you will end getting used to the change, developing your resilience. In this phase, add to deep breathing some mindfulness practice. Start noticing how your mind and body feel in the new situation, be present. Every moment you will be able to go further, will be a moment you gained confidence, resilience, and strength.
  3. Growth. This is the last step. When you will have faced change and will have accepted it and will have persevered in going on, you will grow. Here, you will find that fears will start ease and you will start feeling relief. Sometimes, changes can be so deep that you need to grow to overcome the negative emotions. Don’t give up, you’re almost on the other side of the mountain. In this phase, add meditation to your deep breathing and mindfulness practice. Meditate on your feelings, on your fears, and on your strength. You will discover that it’s not necessary to overcome your fears and your weaknesses, you must simply deal with them, and on them build your new yourself.

Regular Dai-Hara Kizendo practice can help you deal with stress, anxiety, and fears.

I hope you will find these suggestion useful. Please feel free to leave here your comments and your ideas!
